Mnémé is the master’s thesis by Chrysa Gerakaki, developed at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar in 2020.
Named after Mnémé, the Greek muse of memory, the project explores how architecture can give form to remembrance and collective memory. Through a network of memorial interventions in Mati, the proposal reflects on the traces of the 2018 wildfire and the relationship between place, loss and memory.
The thesis investigates how architecture can move beyond the idea of a singular monument, creating instead a spatial experience through which memory can persist within the landscape.
